Gift of the Month April Recap

April clues

The clues didn’t all fit in the envelope, but they were a picnic blanket and some plastic ants. Can you guess what we did? We went on a picnic!

There wasn’t actually any eating though, so can you still call it a picnic? We went to the Arnold Arboretum, where we got married last April. Spreading out the blanket, we lay down and reminisced about our wedding last year. The sun warmed our faces and the magic of that private alcove in the middle of the city still hasn’t faded.

It’s amazing how time flies when you’re spending it with loved ones. We spent the entire afternoon in our spot. Mike took pictures with the big camera, we made notes, took a nap, played with inch worms, and read our jars.

Jars?

wedding note jars
When we got married last year I stole borrowed an idea to create message jars. In the cocktail room, on one side of the bar, were 4 jars, some notecards, and a bunch of colored pens. Each jar has a different open-by date for us: 1 month, 1 year, 5 years, and 10 years. Everyone was invited to leave us notes to open on our future anniversaries. We brought our jars with us on the picnic, re-read the 1 month jar and then eagerly broke into the 1 year jar. This was such a great idea. If you’re planning a wedding, or know someone who is, I highly recommend sharing this one with them. It’s better than a guest book. Reading through all those messages was like being surrounded by our friends and family all over again. Celebrating with all of those people was the best thing about our wedding day.

This was a great date – we relaxed, enjoyed time together, enjoyed Spring and the changing of the seasons. Sadly, most of the flowers had already faded from our spot. The weather made for an early blooming spring. Our spot is wonderful no matter what the time of year. Can you tell where we’d been sitting?
