Bird Watching

It’s NaBloPoMo, National Blog Posting Month. For the month of November, I’m going to post every day. This is day 13.

red-tailed hawk

A short post for today after the verbosity of yesterday. I’ve been working on some new recipes that I hope to share soon. The weekend is the best time for recipe development and sharing. I cook in a more relaxed manner, not rushed by hunger or time. I’m better able to think about flavor combinations and techniques. I’ll make things in bulk or prepare extra to have during the week. During the week I find myself falling back on reliable recipes and familiar flavor combinations.

I love when something interrupts the routine, the rhythm of the week. Something that is out of the ordinary, that makes you stop and reflect. On our morning walk yesterday we encountered a red-tailed hawk. I didn’t realize how big they are until I saw it up close. He didn’t seem bothered by us and just sat there as we walked past. It gave the rest of my day a different tone, a new direction. It’s good to be reminded of the awesome variety of nature.

Did anything unusual shake up your routine this week?
